Who we are

Built by geologists.
Made for prospectors.

Detector Maps started with two brothers in Queensland and one belief — the ground-truth data the pros keep quiet belongs in everyone’s pocket.

The story

Two brothers. One obsession.

Detector Maps is the brainchild of two brothers from Queensland, Australia — one a geologist and spatial scientist, the other a software developer. Between them they had the two things gold prospecting had never put in the same place: the science to read the ground, and the technology to carry it into the field.

They weren’t armchair mappers. They prospected the same country they were mapping, refined a data-driven method that actually put gold in the pan, and then built the tool they wished they’d started with — and opened it up to everyone.

Our mission

Empower every prospector with advanced geoscientific data.

We believe data is the key to uncovering ground worth digging — and that it shouldn’t take a geology degree or a government login to reach it. We take the same soil, stream and rock-chip geochemistry, LiDAR, tenure and historic-workings data the experts rely on, and make it simple enough for anyone to read.

Smarter, simpler and more accessible — whether you’re planning at the kitchen table or standing on the ground, off-grid.

What we stand for

How we build.

Data over guesswork

Every layer is real, sourced data — not hunches. See where gold has been found, what’s open and what’s legal before you drive.

Honest about the ground

A map shows you where to look and what the records say. It can’t promise gold — and we’ll never pretend otherwise.

Built by people who dig

We use this in the field ourselves. If a layer doesn’t help us find better ground, it doesn’t ship.

Where we work

From the Queensland goldfields to the world.

What started on Australian goldfields now covers prospectors across the United States, New Zealand and British Columbia — and metal detectorists and field archaeologists across the United Kingdom. Same idea everywhere: read the ground before you dig.

Start finding ground worth digging.

Every layer worth checking, on one map you can take off-grid.
