What's a mineral permit?

In NZ the right to prospect, explore or mine minerals is granted by NZ Petroleum & Minerals as a permit — there are no private mineral claims like Australia or the US.

How current are permits?

Permits refresh from the NZP&M record. Always confirm a permit’s current status before you act on it.

Can I detect on a permit?

An active permit is someone else’s right. Prospect on open ground or with the holder’s permission — and always check DOC and landowner access.

Which areas?

Across New Zealand’s gold-bearing regions — the same layer set nationwide.
