New South Wales has plenty of gold and surprisingly few gold clubs. The dedicated prospecting and metal detecting network here is small: one long-established Sydney club that has been running since 1981 and runs a trip away every month, plus a couple of older regional groups that appear in community club directories but no longer publish anything of their own. What joining a club actually gets you

One club runs a trip away every monthProspectors Home Club has been running since 1981, out of what was a shop at North Parramatta, and runs a trip away every month except January to areas with gold panning and detecting ground, with camping, caravanning and nearby accommodation options.
Come on a trip before you buy a detectorProspectors Home Club says everyone is welcome on the trips to try metal detecting and panning for gold, and advises new members to come along and learn from more experienced members before purchasing equipment. That is the cheapest advice in the hobby.
Published feesProspectors Home Club lists $50 single and $60 family to join, then $35 single and $45 family to renew. It meets on the first Tuesday of every month except January at 7.30pm at the Harry Todd Band Hall, Parramatta.
The regional groups are hard to pin downOlder prospecting groups at Kogarah Bay and Dubbo appear in community club directories but no longer publish anything of their own, and at least one long running Central Coast club has closed. Contact any of them before you plan a night around it.
Ground first, club secondNSW fossicking is spread across Crown land, state forests that need a Forestry Corporation permit, and private property, and the club will not sort that out for you. Work out the land status and the historic workings on a map such as Detector Maps before you commit to a weekend.
