About this layer

GB1900 records place names and map text transcribed from historic mapping around 1900. Search the names and compare their position with a modern map to research older land use. A name can survive after the feature itself has disappeared.

What it is for

Compare the name and its category with the surrounding old map, modern basemap and other records.

Limits

Names can be approximate, duplicated or no longer in use. The point is not a precise position of a surviving feature or find.
