Detector Maps
Live tenements refreshed weekday mornings, a century of historic gold, government geochemistry and magnetics — one offline map of the biggest goldfields on earth.

Detector Maps’ WA gold maps layer live mining tenements, historic gold occurrences, soil and stream geochemistry, magnetics and bedrock geology over Western Australia — sourced from the Geological Survey of Western Australia and refreshed on a schedule you can depend on.

Granted prospecting, exploration and mining leases. Always turn this on before planning your trip. Granted exploration tenements may need a Section 40E Permit or written consent. Live leases are out of bounds.
Tenement applications that haven't been granted. Pending ground is available to prospect on, providing there's no overlapping live lease. Double-check the status closer to your trip.

Expired and surrendered ground — see where leases have dropped and country has opened up.

Out of bounds — but a strong signal of serious gold country nearby.

Ground in the release pipeline — watch country before it opens.
Section 40E: detecting on granted exploration ground often needs a 40E permit or written consent — if your spot sits on one, apply and follow the conditions. Section 19 areas are off-limits; we map them so you avoid them.

Official records of past gold finds, old mines and workings — plus reported locations of larger nugget finds. Turn this on first to choose a general area, then stack geochemistry, geology and geophysics to pick your targets.

Gold in soil samples from exploration companies. Look for trends that suggest gold nearby.

Creek-sediment gold in ppb — a strong result means a source upstream. Work upstream, focus on bedrock.

Gold in exposed rock, in ppm. Visit readings over 10ppm and look along strike.

Highest gold value per drillhole — where explorers committed. Note samples over 30ppm Au.
Abandoned mines are clues, not places to enter. Keep a safe distance from shafts and unstable ground. Obey all signs.

A gold prospectivity layer for WA — a head start on where to look. Stack it with magnetics, geology and your historic layers to make targets nobody else has marked.

Total magnetic intensity reduced to pole — the bedrock and its strike. Some rocks and magnetic features host gold.

First vertical derivative — edges, breaks and lines in shallow magnetics. Compare with RTP and geology.

Radiometric imagery — another geophysical lens on what the ground is made of.
And the full WA geology stack — statewide bedrock down to 1:100k sheet detail, layered under your targets.

Rock types and features beneath the soil. Focus where rock types meet or lines change direction.

Big picture to local detail. A- and P-prefixed units are your source rocks.

Seamless across map sheets — follow features long distances.

Read where water slows and material settles. Plan drives and walks.

Heritage places mapped so you can plan around them with respect.

Station boundaries — know whose ground you're crossing before you ask.

Parks, reserves and designated land boundaries, mapped against your targets.

Fire hotspots on the map — check conditions before you head out.
The access conversation happens at home, not at a locked gate. Rules vary by state — we link to the relevant government page in-app.
WA LiDAR isn’t available yet. When it’s released, we’ll build it — leave your email and you’ll know the day it goes live.
Download 10+ offline areas of 250 km² each on Wi-Fi and every WA layer rides along — tenements, geochem, magnetics, geology. GPS works with zero bars. Re-download before each trip so your tenements are current.
Pay monthly or save on yearly — the 3-day free trial lives on the yearly plans. LiDAR hillshade is the only paid add-on, priced per state.

Start with the Historic Gold Occurrences layer — official records of past finds, old mines and workings — to choose a general area. Then stack geochemistry, geology and geophysics to narrow it to targets, and check the tenement layer before you drive. No app can promise gold; we get you to better country faster.
Often, yes — detecting on granted exploration tenements usually needs a Section 40E Permit or written consent from the holder. If your spot sits on a granted exploration tenement, apply and follow the conditions. Live mining leases are out of bounds.
Section 19 of the WA Mining Act covers restricted areas. They’re off-limits — we map them so you can avoid them.
Pending ground — tenement applications not yet granted — is available to prospect on, providing there’s no overlapping live lease. Double-check the status closer to your trip, because applications get granted.
Every weekday between 4 and 6am local time. New pegs, expiries, transfers, applications — all live by the time you wake up.
Not yet. Everything else is live today: tenements, historic workings, geochemistry, magnetics and geology, all working offline. Leave your email on this page and we’ll tell you the day WA LiDAR ships.
